Surf lifesavers are iconic Australians.

You see their reassuring presence on the beach when you go for a swim. You admire their skill and athleticism as they race through the waves. But the red and yellow army aren’t just here for fun. They’re here for YOU.

Last year alone Queensland’s volunteer surf lifesavers directly saved the lives of 3,894 beachgoers through in-water rescues and treated 65,133 injured people through first aid treatments. All of this was provided at no cost to Queensland beachgoers!

Every year, Australian’s dig deep to help keep our vital life saving services and volunteers on the beach, doing the job they love. Every dollar raised through SOS Week helps surf life saving clubs across Queensland continue to raise the red and yellow flags and ensure you stay safe at the beach.

About SLSQ

Surf Life Saving Queensland (SLSQ) is the state’s peak aquatic rescue authority and is one of the largest volunteer-based community service organisations in Australia.

Surf Life Saving Queensland is built on a fundamental principle: to save lives.

Our organisation encompasses several diverse arms – lifesaving services, community education, membership services, surf sports, fundraising and commercial training – but they all contribute to one overarching purpose.

What is SOS week?

Monday 14 – Sunday 20 October

2019 will mark the 16th year of SLSQ’s annual fundraising appeal, one of the largest fundraising initiatives for SLSQ.

SOS Week is pivotal in ensuring that our volunteer surf lifesavers have the necessary equipment, training, and resources to continue safeguarding our state’s beaches. In addition, it and provides a valuable avenue for surf life saving to highlight the services we provide to the community and our urgent need for funding from the community.

3Fundraising Throughout Queensland

Monday 15 - Sunday 21 October

Street collections, Brisbane CBD.

SLSQ volunteers will be out and about in force in and around Brisbane City fundraising to keep lifesavers on our beaches. Look out for the red and yellow army in and around the CBD – Central and Roma St Stations, Queen Street Mall, King George Square and more.

Fancy becoming part of the red and yellow but don't want to get your feet wet?

Use your passion for saving lives to raise awareness and vital funds for Surf Life Saving Queensland’s SOS Week by becoming a volunteer.

Volunteers are the backbone of our movement and are recognised throughout Australia as an iconic and integral part of the Aussie way of life. Have fun and make a real contribution!

SOS Week volunteers can help with both street collections and in-house administrative support so whether you want to pound the pavement, conduct data entry or just offer your expertise in another way, there’s room here for you to make a difference.

3Fundraising Throughout Queensland

Keep your eyes peeled at train stations, shopping centres and community areas.

Surf life saving clubs all over the Queensland will be out and about fundraising throughout the week in locations as far south as Tugun and as far north as Ellis Beach. Keep your eyes peeled for our volunteer patrol members in and around train stations, shopping centres and community areas.

This year, clubs will not only be shaking the donation tins and asking you to support our vital services, some areas will have brand new tap & go donation systems so even if you don’t have spare change, you can still do your part and give to the red and yellow!
